Accor set to expand its presence in Brazil

Hotel giant AccorHotels is set to further expand its presence in Brazil and increase the number of hotels it runs in the country by two-thirds within four years.

The company aims to have 400 hotels in 163 Brazilian cities by 2020 as it develops the domestic tourism market.

The AccorHotels group, one of the largest in the world is present in 92 countries with more than 3,700 hotels.

Currently Accor operates in 10 countries across Latin America and has 244 hotels across 100 Brazilian cities which makes it Brazil’s largest hotel operator.

Indeed, Brazil remains a large focus of Accor’s expansion plans in Latin America.

In 2014, 49 new hotel contracts were signed in the country worth 1.9 billion Brazilian real ($615 million) which totalled three quarters of its newest deals in Latin America.

The vice-president of Accor group in South America, Olivier Hick, says the company is preforming well in Brazil thanks to the increased interest in domestic travel,

“We have very good business from Colombia and Argentina, and Brazilians themselves are travelling in Brazil instead of going to Europe and America.”

Indeed, with most Brazilians choosing domestic destinations instead of traveling abroad this year, Brazil’s hotel sector occupancy rate is reaching over 90% in some of the major destinations.

Accor’s global presence is going from strength to strength, with the name leading its prestige to a wide variety of hotel chains.

One high end example is the Mercure brand, located in some of the world’s most fashionable locations and known for their quality both in terms of facilities and service.

A perfect example of Mercure offering is the Mercure Natal in Brazil, a 4-star hotel which will include 252 luxury suites, a private pool, a business centre and a 24-hour concierge service among other exclusive amenities.
