Brazil’s “City of the Sun” named best 2016 beach retirement hotspot

Brazil’s “City of the Sun”, Natal, has been highlighted as one of the world’s top beach destinations to retire to. Live and Invest Overseas has highlighted the city’s mile-long crescent beach, which is sheltered by a giant sand dune, and its warm, shallow waters as two of the key reasons for Natal’s inclusion in its list of the five best places to retire on the beach in 2016.

The only beach destination in Brazil to make it into the top five, Natal was also flagged up, as the nickname suggests, as one of the country’s sunniest cities – a factor often close to the hearts of those looking to retire to their dream home overseas. The city benefits from more than 300 days of sunshine annually, with a gentle, balmy climate throughout the year.

Miller Reis, sales director of award-winning property developer Ritz-G5, which has developed a number of projects in and around Natal, comments,

“Natal is a such a beautiful place, it’s great to see it getting the international recognition that it deserves. The climate is perfect for retirees and the beach is simply stunning. Without question Natal is one of the world’s most enticing retirement hotspots.”

Economic factors also contribute to Natal’s appeal. For those with a limited pension pot to spend on property, the weak real means they can get vastly more for their money than they could have done just a year or two ago.

Ritz-G5’s chief financial officer, Paul Telfer, explains,

“The Brazilian real has been falling in value for around five years now, but it is the past two years that have seen the currency decline most steeply. It was worth BRL0.65 against the dollar back in July 2011. We saw it dip as low as BRL0.24 in January 2016, meaning that buyers from overseas can get more than twice as much for their money now.”

The rate means that the cost of living has also became cheaper for those on a fixed income. Everything from food to cars to caipirinhas is cheaper than it has been for years for those with an income from abroad.

When it comes to choice of retirement destination, winter sun and affordable living are certainly important factors, but they are not the only considerations. Access to high quality leisure amenities and a decent social scene are also requirements for many of those looking to spend their golden years overseas. Again, Natal ticks all the boxes in this respect.

Ritz-G5’s flagship development, Palm Springs, is just what retirees to Brazil are looking for. One of the city’s most captivating and exclusive beachside condominium developments, Palm Springs’ frontline position makes it the perfect place for those who love the beach. The development boasts plenty to keep retirees occupied, from its natural springs, spa, swimming pools, hot tub and sauna to its football and beach volleyball courts.

Majestic Village is another great option. Also a condominium neighbourhood, it is located close to Ponta Negra beach, set in beautifully landscaped gardens. A central square surrounded by bustling cafés and restaurants will create the ideal meeting point, while the site will also benefit from a school, supermarket, kindergarten, clinics, swimming pools, tennis courts and club, volleyball courts, football pitches, children’s play area, gym, stunning feature river and club house – the ultimate package for those seeking an active retirement.
